A NEW ORGANISATION FOR MASA-SCI WEBSITE
!
For the first time, MASA-SCI unveils a new generation software simulation suite, addressing two main markets : Defense and Homeland Security. We chose to name this software offering
SWORD for Simulation for Wargaming, Operation Research and Doctrine. Learn more about SWORD in our "offering" section.

Responding to the problems encountered by applying legacy artificial intelligence approaches in today’s demanding simulation environment, MASA developed DirectIA ® -- a patented software technology enabling simulations to demonstrate unprecedented realism, including the ability to model human behavior. DirectIA® offers vast improvements over algorithms, decision trees, or finite state machine-based simulations and enhances the modeling and simulation environment in several distinct ways:
- Complements a Geographic Information System to simulate behavior of organized forces or the underlying population where forces are operating;
- Adds a behavioral component into an existing simulation to introduce tactics, techniques, procedures and/or doctrine
- Endows simulated entities with autonomous behavior or decision capabilities;
- Allows development of full-scale simulations for training, re-training, research and decision support.
MASA developed DirectIA® to create agents that demonstrate “intelligent” behavior – agents capable of adapting to situations that are not programmed or predicted. This presents the opportunity to stimulate decision makers in military command posts, crisis response and incident management teams to train and prepare for unplanned situations. Enhancing the training benefit to warfighters and first responders offers the following benefits:
- Preparedness enhancement : Training and retraining on techniques, tactics and procedures
- Research and experimentation : Evaluation and assessment in a controlled environment
- Decision Support Capability : Augment decision making capability through decision validation
DirectIA® offers the user an unparalleled opportunity to prepare for the unpredictable.

MASA Announces TARANIS: Technologies for the Appraisal of Risks through Animation and Simulation
The TARANIS project, supported by MASA, ESRI-France and the LRI (Orsay University computer science laboratory), aims to create a new training system for crisis managers, based on innovative simulation tools, allowing trainers to recreate easily the most complex crisis situations. Simulation tools offer unprecedented control to the trainer over the training session while making the virtual crisis reactive to the trainees actions and providing an unlimited variety of extreme crisis situations, a challenge that even very expensive ground exercises cannot meet.
