History

MASA's SCI branch has developed from MASA Group as a leader in behavior simulation technology.

MASA is a forward-looking company, a center of excellence in Artificial Intelligence and innovation. The company was spun off in 1996 from the prestigious French “Ecole Normale Superieure”, home of more than eight Nobel Prizes and eight Fields Medals.

The company was created in 1996 as an advanced software venture, and specialized in software development thanks to unique adaptive and intelligent technologies, such as human behavior modeling, dynamic optimization, and statistical machine learning. SCI is MASA business unit dedicated to simulation.

MASA-SCI is the owner of DirectIA®, a patented software technology which allows the accurate reproduction of high-level human behavior. MASA is backed by Qualis, a group of industrial equity holdings formed in 1993. In 2005, companies controlled solely or jointly by Qualis generated sales of around €850 million and operating profit of €100 million. MASA has a subsidiary in Singapore (MASA Asia Pacific Pte Ltd) and operates in the United States.

MASA-SCI is a member of , SYSTEM@TIC (Innovation Pole of Paris) and ESRI® partnership programme.

Strategy

MASA-SCI’s strategy is to provide value to customers using its leading edge DirectIA® technology to build a new generation of homeland security and military simulations.

Thanks to an innovative technology in human behavior and decision-making modelling, MASA-SCI is today a world leader recognized in its field, expanding at the same time in Europe, the United States and Asia, with a subsidiary in Singapore.

Applications

MASA-SCI offers a full spectrum of products and services, from the "decisional module" intended to interface with conventional simulations to OTS systems and turnkey simulations integrated in operational civil or military systems (C4I, Battlelabs). Applications include

  • Constructive training simulations (command post training, professional training, mission preparation and rehearsal)
  • CBT (Computer Based Training), Web-BT
  • Operation research
  • Operation planning
  • Decision support
  • Synthetic environments animation (synthetic mockups, driving simulators, urban environment,…)

Key Advantages
Key advantages for our customers are :

  • the capacity to animate rich environments, dramatically enhancing the realism of simulations ;
  • a drastic reduction of the costs associated with CAX preparation and animation ;
  • for the first time, the ability to use simulation as a decision support tool.

Research & Innovation

The company's continuous research and development investment allows maintaining its lead in the modelling and simulation industry. The company has patented numerous technologies and continues generating innovations, in close partnership with EEC networks of excellence (NoE) and state-of-the-art research laboratories.
